CERT training provides basic emergency skills needed immediately following a disaster, before emergency personnel arrive. The training prepares residents to be able to take care of their family and neighbors. There are eight classes and topics include disaster preparedness, terrorism awareness, incident command system, medical operations, light duty search and rescue, fire safety, and disaster psychology. Upon completion of all eight classes, students receive a backpack filled with emergency gear. The class is free and open
