When the news gets loud, it’s time to laugh

Capitol Fools

The beloved political satire troupe, Capitol Fools, returns to the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen by popular demand, September 4–5.

Headlines have always been serious. Fortunately, laughter has always been serious medicine.

This September, audiences at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen are invited to trade cable news for comedy as Capitol Fools comedy troupe returns by popular demand for three performances packed with lightning-fast political satire, outrageous musical parodies, unforgettable impressions, and the kind of belly laughs that leave strangers feeling like neighbors.

Performances will take place Friday, September 4 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, September 5 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $45.

In an era when many Americans feel exhausted by nonstop political conversation, Capitol Fools offers something refreshingly different: permission to laugh together.

Yahoo Entertainment observed, “Sometimes you just need to laugh off what is happening in Washington, D.C., and the Capitol Fools have plenty of material that will have you cracking up about politics.”

The Washington, D.C.-based comedy troupe carries on the celebrated legacy of the legendary Capitol Steps, featuring many of its longtime performers and writers. Their signature blend of clever song parodies, rapid-fire costume changes, razor-sharp impressions, and playful political observations reminds audiences that no matter where someone lands politically, everyone can appreciate a well-crafted joke.

The humor never belongs to one side.

Neither does the laughter.

“If you think politics is no laughing matter,” the show’s description teases, “you clearly have never seen a Capitol Fools show.”

The production has earned devoted fans nationwide.

“Capitol Fools never disappoints, and this year’s show was one of the best we’ve seen in our many years of being fans,” wrote Ticketmaster reviewer Tess.

For many audience members, that may be exactly what makes live comedy feel so necessary.

While headlines often divide people, shared laughter has a remarkable way of bringing them back together. For one evening, audiences aren’t Democrats or Republicans, conservatives or progressives. They’re simply neighbors laughing at the wonderfully absurd business of being human.

The Cultural Arts Center believes experiences like these are part of what keeps communities connected. Live performance creates something no scrolling feed can replicate – a room full of people breathing, reacting, and laughing together in real time.

Capitol Fools doesn’t ask audiences to forget the world outside.

It simply reminds them that joy still belongs in it.
