Battersea Celebrates! 250 Years and … The American Revolution

Battersea is celebrating its 250th birthday along with a reenactment of the 1781 Revolutionary War Battle of Petersburg. It is a wonderful opportunity to spend a day outside on a 40-acre historic property that has a very historic Palladian house, rolling lawn, and big beautiful shade trees. Come have birthday cake on May 18 at 10:30 am. The Redcoats and American soldiers will be in military encampments in the yard, along with sutlers & craftsmen and visitors can meet them and discover what camp life was like. Craftsmen will be doing demonstrations. Each day at 2:00 pm the battle reenactments will occur with regimental drills, skirmishes, artillery demonstrations. The Bowl’d Sojer Band will play on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, there will be author talks, house tours, and “Walks & Talks” each day about the cultural landscape, specimen trees, the historic greenhouse (1825 – 1835 timeframe). Event is FREE. Food & drinks available for purchase each day.
