The marriage of undersea explorer Jacques Cousteau and the City of Norfolk gets a bit closer as City Council there approves plans for the Cousteau Ocean Center, if Cousteau uses his best efforts over the next six months to raise $5 million to help pay for the project.

David Stockman, President Reagan’s brash budget director, announces he’s leaving the administration to pursue a career in private business.

Speaking of President Reagan, Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Wyatt Durrette expects the president to campaign for him here in an appearance later this month. That will also give Reagan a chance to visit the National Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill on the same trip.

The visiting New York Mets, with the help of George Foster and Keith Hernandez, beat the Cincinnati Reds 11 to 2 for their eighth straight victory. Foster and Hernandez both hit home runs. The Mets’ winning streak is the longest of any National League team this season.
