Jive45 has been entertaining audiences large and small since 2008. With its distinctive blend of old-school soul and timeless blues, the six-piece band is a welcome addition to the Richmond music scene. Vocalist Jennifer Dodge leads the way with her talent and energy, whether she’s belting out a scorching blues number, interpreting a tender ballad with sensitivity and depth, or dishing out a sassy soul classic with spunk and verve. Blending old and new, she channels the vitality of Etta James and Aretha Franklin and evokes the nuanced dynamism of Bonnie Raitt and Susan Tedeschi. Lead guitarist Josh Lief is as comfortable unleashing an incendiary blues solo as he is delivering a tasty soul riff. Veteran saxophonist Harris Levy just might be Jive45’s secret weapon, as he effortlessly finds the perfect spots for his spot-on licks and transforms solos into a playground for his prodigious improvisational talent. Rounding out the band is the tightest rhythm section in the RVA: Michael White on keys, Karl Zweerink on bass, and Jeremy Clark on drums. With its talented lineup and crowd-pleasing repertoire, Jive45 has something to offer everyone who loves great music.
