How different would your life be if you could not read this? You could not read stories to your grandchildren. You would have trouble deciphering your prescription bottle. You wouldn’t be comfortable reading scripture in front of your congregation. 1 in 10 adults in Richmond, Henrico, and Chesterfield cannot read well, but there’s hope. The READ Center’s mission is to help adults with low-level literacy develop reading and communication skills so they can fulfill their roles as citizens, workers, and family members, and improve their quality of life.

You have the power to make a difference in the life of someone in your community by becoming an adult literacy tutor. The READ Center provides classes and one-to-one tutoring, and we have an ongoing need for volunteers willing to tutor our students in reading, writing, basic math, and digital skills. As a volunteer tutor, you’ll receive ongoing support and training opportunities. You’ll join a welcoming community of volunteers and teachers willing to share their knowledge and passion for making a difference.
