FrogWatch Training

Date(s)

  • February 1, 2020 | 3:00 pm

Venue

Maymont

What’s that sound in your backyard? Is it a bird? Is it a cricket? More likely, you’re hearing the nocturnal chorus of frogs and toads! Become a FrogWatch USA volunteer and learn how to help scientists monitor these amazing amphibians. Coordinators with the Maymont FrogWatch Chapter will teach you how to develop and monitor frogs and toads in your own backyard, contributing to one of the largest citizen science projects in the nation. Participants will learn about natural history, wetland ecology, and monitoring protocols, and are invited to join Maymont’s coordinators at the end of the training session to see how they monitor sites throughout the estate.

To become a certified FrogWatch volunteer, participants must attend the session in its entirety and will be quizzed on monitoring procedures prior to the completion of training. Participants may bring their own snacks or dinner and are encouraged to bring their own electronic devices (laptops/tablets) to use during the training.

While FrogWatch is a great after-dark family activity for all ages, training sessions are designed for interested high schoolers and adults.
