In the years following the American Revolution, Court End became an affluent area where power players gathered near the new Virginia State Capitol. VMHC Used Book Sale. Bring your gently used hardcover and softcover fiction and nonfiction books to the museum store daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Dec. 28. Books should be in good condition and have a historical theme. Sale Dec. 30 to Jan. 11 at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, Richmond.

757 Art Can Feed Charity Art Show. Meet and greet local artists and score new art to take home – 100% of profits go to the Norfolk Food Bank, and prints will be available in exchange for food donations. Art available through Jan. 31. Jan. 4, 6 to 8 p.m., at Zeke’s Chesapeake.

Virginia natural area expands, welcomes visitors

Buffalo Mountain Natural Area Preserve Nearly Doubled. A property of the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, which offers a 360-degree view of the surrounding land and protects natural heritage resources, has been expanded by 975 acres. The expansion comes through a partnership with The Conservation Fund, bringing the total acreage to 2,121. Eighteen rare species make their home in the preserve’s forests, wetlands, and grasslands, including three-toothed cinquefoil (Sibbaldia tridentata), and Mountain sandwort (Minuartia groenlandica), both low-growing perennials with white flowers. The property is open to the public.
