The NY Times' Shoutout to Peter Chang's Richmond Café

An RVA Restaurant and Its Owner Were Profiled the New York Times.

In mid-April, New York Times food critic Pete Wells ventured to Virginia in search of the elusive Master Chef Peter Chang. Wells ate at three of Chang’s five Virginia restaurants, finding him in Short Pump’s Peter Chang China Café.

Wells heaped praise on the food and Chang’s expertise, noting the U.S. has a number of skilled Chinese chefs but “far fewer who put their skills in the service of the imaginative leaps we expect from major chefs. By the end of my dinner in Short Pump, I had no doubts that Mr. Chang is one of them.”

He added that, while all the restaurants were first-rate, “The fans who say that the best Peter Chang restaurant is the one where Mr. Chang is cooking may be on to something.”
